Saskatchewan farmers and industry professionals, mark your calendars for January 14-15, 2025! The Saskatchewan Crops Forum is an exciting new event held at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon that will feature a dynamic mix of the Sask Crop Commissions’ annual general meetings, four speaker sessions plus networking opportunities. This event will bring registered producers, industry experts and thought leaders together for two full days of insightful dialogue.
Kicking off the event is General Rick Hillier (Ret.) with a leadership keynote. He is the former Chief of Defense Staff for the Canadian Forces and his no-nonsense approach to leadership will inspire and challenge attendees to think differently about how to lead in today’s complex global environment. Later that afternoon, RealAgriculture’s Shaun Haney will moderate a panel discussion on research investments, featuring experts including Dr. Steven Webb from the Global Institute for Food Security, Angela Bedard-Haughn from the U of S College of Agriculture and Bioresources, and Penny McCall from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. This panel will explore how research investments have transformed agriculture over the past three decades and discuss emerging trends for the future.
Day two will start with Nutrien’s Chief Economist, Jason Newton, delivering a forward-looking talk on global economic trends and their impact on agriculture, with special attention to trade dynamics and farm-gate prices. Politics enthusiasts won’t want to miss the last session which will feature a live taping of the popular Curse of Politics podcast, where hosts David Herle, Scott Reid, Jordan Leichnitz and Jory Teneycke offer candid, behind-the-scenes takes on the latest political happenings, delivered with humor and perspective.
The AGMs for SaskOilseeds, SaskBarley, Sask Pulse Growers and Sask Wheat will take place throughout the event, giving producers a chance to vote on important motions and resolutions. A registered producer is someone who has grown and sold canola, flax, barley, pulses and/or wheat in Saskatchewan within the last two years and has not requested a levy refund in the previous year. Voter status is specific to each commission, and registered producers must attend in person to participate in voting.
Each day will conclude with a networking reception on Boom Town Street, providing the perfect setting to build connections and reflect on the day’s discussions. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation shaping Saskatchewan agriculture!

SaskOilseeds is Seeking Cooperators to Join 2025 On-Farm Trials
SaskOilseeds continues to address farmer questions and challenges with Top Notch Farming research trials, a program aimed at cultivating collaboration between farmers, agronomists and research specialists. The goal is to develop practical, on-farm research that addresses real-world questions while generating data that helps inform future farming decisions.
There are many benefits cooperators receive by participating. Farmers get to conduct trials using their own equipment, under their own unique farm conditions and management practices, ensuring that results are directly applicable to their operations. A dedicated research specialist or agronomist supports farmers every step of the way, assisting with trial set up and data collection throughout the growing season. Cooperators get primary access to the results of other on-farm, field scale trials conducted in Saskatchewan, providing valuable insights and knowledge to help optimize their farming strategies.
SaskOilseeds will present the 2024 trial results in February at their Top Notch Farming extension meetings. In the meantime, farmers and agronomists are encouraged to submit ideas for future protocols and sign up to be a cooperator for 2025. Visit SaskOilseeds’ website for more information and to submit an application.
